EU/EEA nationals may stay freely (registration and residence permit after 3 months). Non-EU/EEA nationals must obtain a long-stay visa (type D) from the Italian consulate for a stay longer than 90 days.

No au-pair pocket-money amount is set by Italian law (the programme does not exist formally). Accepted practice generally ranges between €70 and €150 per week (≈ €280–600 per month), board & lodging included — an amount to negotiate and put in writing.
