Spanish classes for au pairs in Salamanca, at Berceo

Berceo has taught Spanish to foreigners in the historic centre of Salamanca since 1994. Its semi-intensive course runs Monday to Friday, 09:10–11:00, while the children are at school: an au pair can study in the oldest university city in Spain without giving up a full childcare week.

Information from the school. Details checked on 4 November 2026.

Questions

Which course suits an au pair in Salamanca?

The semi-intensive course: Monday to Friday, 09:10–11:00, two lessons of 50 minutes a day, 10 hours a week. It falls in school hours, so it fits around a 25–30 hour childcare week. If you also want to prepare for an official exam, the school offers a DELE/SIELE extension on request; Berceo is an official SIELE examination centre.

How much does it cost?

Semi-intensive (10 hours a week): 1 week €180, 2 weeks €320, 3 weeks €450, 4 weeks €570, 8 weeks €1,100, 12 weeks €1,480, 15 weeks €1,750. Intensive (20 hours): 1 week €260, 4 weeks €735, 12 weeks €1,915, 24 weeks €3,615, 36 weeks €5,235. DELE/SIELE extension: €150 a week. Private lessons: €38 an hour, or 5 for €150. These are the school’s prices: no au pair rate is shown here.

Can I join the intensive course?

Only if you have no childcare in the morning. It runs Monday to Friday, 09:10–13:00 (20 hours a week), so it suits an early arrival, before your childcare hours start, or a summer stay. During the school year, choose the semi-intensive course.

How do I enrol, and are there extra fees?

Two simple ways: buy and enrol directly on berceo.com, or email [email protected] to receive the enrolment form and the link to the free online level test. No registration fee. Course materials included (digital and paper); a physical textbook is optional.

How many hours can I work if I study?

In Spain, au pair tasks are capped at 5 hours a day, with at least one full free day a week. A lesson is not childcare time: agree your lesson times with your host family in the placement agreement before you book.

Is the school recognised for visa procedures?

Berceo is accredited by the Instituto Cervantes, and the certificate of attendance it issues carries the Cervantes endorsement. That is a quality accreditation for the courses. We have found no rule making a Cervantes-accredited school mandatory for the au pair visa or the NIE, and the school does not issue the NIE. Ask the school for a written enrolment confirmation and check with your Spanish consulate which documents it requires.

Spanish rules: Real Decreto 1155/2024 (BOE), Ministerio de Asuntos Exteriores. Rules change: check your consulate before applying. Checked on 3 November 2026.
