Three formats, one school

The right format depends on your childcare hours and on whether you want to share the class. The school keeps three distinct options: a morning group intensive, afternoon pair lessons and individual lessons.

A level test before you start

If you already have some Italian, the school asks you to take a level test by Zoom with the didactic coordinator, at least two weeks before the course starts. Complete beginners do not need the test: they join the beginner group on the first day of the session.

  • A1

    First conversations in Dorsoduro

“Buongiorno, vorrei un caffè e un bicchiere d’acqua, per favore.”

Complete beginners: no test, start on the first day of the session

  • A2

At the school gate in Trieste

“Oggi vado a prendere i bambini alle cinque.”

Zoom level test at least two weeks before the start

  • B1

    A Saturday with the family

“Sabato possiamo andare al mare o visitare il castello?”

Zoom level test at least two weeks before the start

  • B2

    Talking to your host parents

“Possiamo organizzare gli orari così seguo il corso intensivo la mattina?”

Zoom level test at least two weeks before the start

  • C1

    Preparing for CILS

“Vorrei prepararmi al CILS senza rinunciare al mio lavoro di au pair.”

Ask the school about CILS preparation

Levels A1 to C1 follow the CEFR scale. The Italian sentences are AuPair Connect examples, not school material, and the school may correct them.

Which certificate do you need?

Check with your university, consulate or future employer which certificate it accepts before paying for an exam session. CILS, CELI and PLIDA are distinct certificates, each run by its own institution.

Preparation offer and exam organisation confirmed with the school on 4 November 2026. Session dates and fees are set by the certifying institutions.

How to enrol

  1. 1

    Choose your city and format

Venice or Trieste, morning intensive, pair lessons or individual lessons. The fees differ between the two cities: confirm the current amount with the school.

  2. 2

Agree the timetable with your host family

Show your family the 9:00–12:30 block or the afternoon slot. Class time is not childcare time: the schedule must fit the children’s real routine.

  3. 3

Take the Zoom level test if needed

If you already have some Italian, book the level test with the didactic coordinator at least two weeks before the start. Complete beginners join the beginner group on the first day.

  4. 4

    Check the visa requirement

EU au pairs do not need a visa. Non-EU au pairs staying more than 90 days need a type D study visa: the school issues the official admission letter following the procedure on its website.

  5. 5

    Register with the school

Timetables, registration and the admission-letter procedure are on the official Istituto Venezia website. Ask for a receipt and, if needed, a certificate for your visa file.

Frequently asked questions

Which Italian course should an au pair in Venice or Trieste choose?

The morning intensive course is designed for au pairs whose children are at school: four 45-minute lessons a day, Monday to Friday, 9:00–10:30 and 11:00–12:30, i.e. 15 real hours or 20 lessons a week. If you prefer a different rhythm, the school also offers semi-individual pair lessons (€62/h for two) and individual lessons (€50/h in Venice, €45/h in Trieste, minimum 5 hours).

How much does the intensive course cost in 2027?

In Venice: €320 for one week, €510 for two, €690 for three, €860 for four and €2,280 for twelve weeks. In Trieste: €260 for one week and €680 for four weeks. Materials and cultural activities are included. Confirm the current amount with the school before paying.

Is there an evening group course?

No. The school formally confirmed that it does not run an extensive group course in the evening. The available formats are the morning intensive, afternoon pair lessons and individual lessons.

Do I need to take a level test?

If you already have some Italian, yes: the school organises a level test by Zoom with the didactic coordinator, at least two weeks before the course starts. Complete beginners do not need it and join the beginner group on the first day of the session.

When does the course start around Easter 2027?

For the late-March session, Monday 29 March 2027 is a public holiday (Lunedì dell’Angelo), so the first day of class for beginners is Tuesday 30 March 2027. A special two-week session also runs from 6 to 17 December, before the Christmas holidays.

Can I prepare for CILS, CELI or PLIDA?

Yes. Istituto Venezia prepares candidates for CILS, CELI and PLIDA. In Venice, the official CILS exam sessions are organised by Università Ca’ Foscari, not by the school. Check with your university or consulate which certificate it accepts.

Do I need a visa?

EU au pairs do not need a visa. Non-EU au pairs staying more than 90 days need a type D study visa: the school issues the official admission letter following the procedure on its website.

Partnership data validated by Istituto Venezia on 4 November 2026. Course and exam rules remain those of the school and the certifying institutions.
