French classes for au pairs in Strasbourg, at Institut STRALANG

Institut STRALANG has taught French as a foreign language in Strasbourg since 2009. Its Standard course, 15 hours a week from 9am to 12pm, Monday to Friday, falls while the children are at school: an au pair can make real progress in French without giving up a full childcare week.

Information from the school and its official website. Details checked on 4 November 2026.

A French school at the heart of Europe

Institut STRALANG is a private higher-education institution founded in 2009, registered with the Strasbourg Academy rectorate and the Bas-Rhin prefecture. It teaches French as a foreign language (FLE) in small groups, a short walk from the university campus and the European institutions.

Student visa and au pair status: two different tracks

Institut STRALANG issues a pre-registration certificate for a student visa from a commitment of at least 5 months on the intensive programme (20h/week). The “jeune au pair” status and student status are two different frameworks: here is how to choose.

Au pair status

The Standard course, 15h/week

French “jeune au pair” status caps childcare at 25 hours a week (Service-Public F13348). The Standard course, 9am–12pm Monday to Friday, leaves afternoons to the family and stays within that cap. It is the pace we recommend.

Student visa

The Intensive course, 20h/week

To obtain a pre-registration certificate for a student visa, the school requires a commitment of at least 5 months on the intensive programme, 20 hours a week. Enrolment then gives student status (subject to the visa), with the €105 CVEC to budget for.

The steps, in order

  • Choose the course that matches your status: Standard for childcare, Intensive for a student visa.
  • Ask the school for a pre-registration certificate and a written enrolment confirmation.
  • Check the documents required for your visa with the French consulate (rules change).
  • Budget for the CVEC (€105) if you qualify for student status.
  • Keep a copy of your au pair placement agreement and the certificate for your file.

This page explains the school’s offer; it does not replace consular advice. Visa and residence rules change: always check your consulate’s official list before paying.

Questions

Which course suits an au pair in Strasbourg?

The Standard course: Monday to Friday, 9am–12pm, 15 hours a week. It falls while the children are at school and stays within the 25-hour weekly childcare cap of the “jeune au pair” status.

How much do classes cost with code STRA26?

Standard course: 1 month €720 (instead of €800), 3 months €1,944 (instead of €2,160), 5 months €3,060 (instead of €3,400), 10 months €5,760 (instead of €6,400). Intensive course: 1 month €900, 3 months €2,430, 5 months €3,825, 10 months €7,200. Private lessons are €55/hour, decreasing from 10 hours.

Does code STRA26 apply to private lessons?

The partnership agreement covers a 10% discount on total tuition. For private lessons, ask the school to confirm at enrolment: we do not want to advertise a discount that would not apply.

Can I get a student visa with these classes?

The school issues a pre-registration certificate for a student visa from a commitment of at least 5 months on the intensive programme, 20 hours a week. The Standard 15h/week course does not qualify for that route. Then check the documents required by your consulate.

Can I combine au pair status with the intensive course?

The “jeune au pair” status caps childcare at 25 hours a week. A 20-hour intensive course already fills every morning: in practice, the Standard course is the one that leaves room for childcare. For a student visa the framework is different and requires a minimum 5-month intensive commitment.

How do I enrol, and are there hidden fees?

Choose your session, take the free level test, then enrol with code STRA26 and say you come from AuPair Connect. There is no registration fee. Materials are included at the start of the course (intensive and minimum one semester); budget for them afterwards. Student status adds the €105 CVEC.
