Culture, outings and the lake

Learning French here is more than a class: the school runs cultural activities, and Annecy does the rest, with its canals, its castle and its turquoise lake.

Why Tuesday and Thursday 13:00–15:00 fit an au pair week

A host family needs an au pair around school hours. The class sits in the middle of the day, where the children are already looked after, and ends before the school pick-up, as long as the slot is agreed first.

A slot built around school hours

Tuesday and Thursday 13:00–15:00: the children are at school, and you are back in time for the school pick-up.

Agree it with the family first

Class time is not childcare time. Show your host family the timetable before you enrol, so someone covers a bath or a pick-up if needed.

Light enough for a 25-hour week

Four hours a week leave the mornings and the end of the day free for the children, well inside the 25 hours (5 a day) the French rules allow for family tasks.

A Tuesday or Thursday, hour by hour

  1. 12:00 Lunch with the family
  2. 13:00–15:00 Au Pair course · A1–B2
  3. 15:00–16:30 Free: a coffee, a walk back
  4. 16:30 School pick-up: snack, homework, bath

Good to knowIllustrative timetable. Hours are fixed with the host family in the convention d’accueil, within 5 hours a day and 25 hours a week. Class time is not childcare time: agree who covers a bath or a pick-up before you enrol.

Want an official level?

The school is an approved DELF and DALF exam centre. The DELF and DALF are diplomas for life, issued by the French Ministry of Education. The au pair rules do not name any test: it is a bonus, not a requirement.

  • Approved DELF and DALF exam centre, France Éducation International.
  • Diplomas recognised internationally and valid for life.
  • A plus for your file, never a condition of the au pair visa.

Before you pay

Register a week ahead.

Form, placement test and payment must be complete at least one week before your first class.

No refund once classes have started.

Only absences backed by a medical certificate give a right to a refund.

Special needs?

If you have a disability or restrictions, contact the school before you enrol to see which adjustments are possible.

Which paperwork, for which stay?

The au pair visa (VLS-TS “jeune au pair”) rests on the convention d’accueil with your host family. The school’s enrolment certificate supports your file, and it is delivered once the first session and the file fees are paid.

  1. Host agreement You and your family sign the convention d’accueil. The course is agreed in it, not paid by the family by default.
  2. Visa file Apply on France-Visas, at the earliest 3 months before you leave. A course does not grant a visa.
  3. Enrolment certificate The school issues an official enrolment certificate for your visa file once the first session and the file fees are paid.
  4. Enrol for the start Enrol at least a week before the first class, with the placement test. Then you land.

Keep in mindA course does not grant a visa: the French consular authorities decide. Sources: France-Visas and Service-Public F15813, checked on 3 November 2026.

From your visa file to your first Tuesday

Five sessions of 6 to 10 weeks run from September to July, always on Tuesday and Thursday. There is no class during exam weeks and public holidays, which is why a session of 6 or 7 weeks adds up to 22 hours rather than 24 or 28.

Frequently asked questions

Which course suits an au pair in Annecy?

The Au Pair course: 4 hours a week, Tuesday and Thursday 13:00–15:00, in level groups from A1 to B2, €14 an hour. It is built around the school day.

How much does it cost?

€308 for a 22-hour session (€14 an hour), €292 for a second consecutive session and €277 from the third; session 5 (28 hours) costs €392, then €372 and €353. Add the €65 registration fee, which includes your first coursebook and the placement test. These are the school’s prices: AuPair Connect adds nothing.

Can I get a refund?

Once classes have started, the school does not refund. Only absences backed by a medical certificate give a right to a refund. The registration fee is valid for 12 months and is not refundable.

Does the school issue a certificate for the visa?

Yes: an official enrolment certificate, once the first session and the file fees are paid. It supports the file, but the au pair visa rests on the convention d’accueil with the host family, and the French consular authorities decide.

Can I start during the year?

Yes, at the start of one of the five sessions, if you are not a complete beginner: simply finish enrolling at least a week before. Complete beginners (A0) start in September only.

How many hours can an au pair work while studying twice a week?

French rules cap family tasks at 5 hours a day and 25 hours a week. Class time is not childcare time: build the timetable with your au pair before enrolling.

Does the host family have to pay for the course?

No: the family has no legal obligation to fund French classes, but many contribute, and the au pair must be able to attend. Agree it in the convention d’accueil.
