English classes for au pairs have to fit around the children. This directory lists verified schools in Ireland: morning timetables, clear levels and exam options — without presenting an exam centre as an exam-preparation course.

Fitting a course around the au pair week

The most compatible format is a morning course that ends around lunchtime. Afternoons and school holidays are when families usually need the most help, so keep the class slot explicit in your agreement.

Mornings first

A course that finishes at 1:00 pm leaves the afternoon free for childcare and school pick-ups.

Small groups

Ask how many students share the class. Small groups make it easier to speak and progress.

Written in the agreement

Write the class days and times into your host agreement, alongside the childcare hours.

A note on hours: AuPair Connect describes a typical au pair week as 25 to 30 hours of childcare. That is our usage, not a legal rule in Ireland.

What to check before you enrol

Read the timetable against your week

Ask for the exact class slot before you enrol, then check it against the hours you actually spend on childcare. A morning course is easiest to combine with an afternoon with the children.

Check the level and the group size

A placement test should place you in a group that matches your level. Ask how many students are in the class and whether adult groups are kept separate from junior groups.

Separate the course from the exam

An exam centre is not the same as an exam-preparation course. Check whether the exam you need can be taken at the school, and where the preparation actually happens.

Add up the real cost

Weekly fee, registration fee, materials and exam fee are separate lines. Ask for the total before you commit, and confirm whether a special au pair rate exists — never assume one.

Ireland: a directory entry, not a legal guide

Ireland is on the AuPair Connect destination waitlist, and we do not publish a legal guide for Ireland. This hub lists a verified school and its practical details. It does not state Irish au pair rules, and a language course alone does not create a right to stay. For placement and legal questions, check the official Irish sources and the school directly.

Frequently asked questions

How do English classes fit around au pair childcare?

A morning course is the most compatible format: classes end at 1:00 pm, which leaves the afternoon free. AuPair Connect describes a typical au pair week as 25 to 30 hours of childcare — our usage, not a legal rule in Ireland. Agree the exact timetable with your host family and write the class slot into your agreement.

Are there English classes for au pairs outside Dublin?

Yes. The verified school on this page is in Tralee, County Kerry, in the south-west of Ireland. It is a single campus, and it does not run a campus in Dublin.

Which exams can I take?

Celtic School of English is an exam centre for Trinity ISE (€160, taken at the school). Cambridge and IELTS are not school courses: candidates take them privately in Cork or Limerick. The General English course is not presented as a Cambridge or IELTS preparation course.
